Nantes tour reviews: what the ratings actually mean
Five tours, 437 reviews between them, 4.3 on average. That average hides a lot. The Nantes City Pass carries 365 of those reviews and the weakest score on the site, 4.2. The two five-star tours have seven reviews and three reviews, which is not enough to call anything proven. Before you read any of this, remember the thing most visitors miss: the courtyard and the 500-metre rampart walk at the château are free every day, and the only part you pay for is the museum inside, on a low-cost ticket.
I have written one review per tour below, with the platform’s own rating, the review count, where the tour sits against the other four on cost, and a plain sentence on who should not book it. The only product here with a sample worth trusting, and the only one rated below 4.5. Helen from the United Kingdom wrote that the buses and trams are really easy and that she went kayaking and on a river cruise; Elisabete from Portugal bought the 48-hour pass and said it was very much worth it. The complaints hide inside the arithmetic rather than the reviews: the museum the pass gets you into is a cheap ticket on the door, and the best part of the castle is free.

Private walking tour — 4.8 from 28 reviews
Twenty-eight reviews is a modest sample but a real one, and it is consistent: Philip from the United Kingdom called the guide extremely knowledgeable, Raymond described an excellent two-hour tour, Tony said he was taken to places you would not normally see. It is private, so the route bends to your questions, and it is priced above three of the other four.

Old town walk — 5.0 from 7 reviews
Seven reviews. I will keep saying it, because a perfect score from seven people tells you the first seven customers were happy and nothing more. It is also in French only, which decides the question for most visitors before cost does. It is the lowest-priced thing on this site, and the sample is the reason to hesitate, not the money.

Electric bike tour — 4.8 from 34 reviews
The best-reviewed thing here by sample size after the pass. Heidi from the United States said the electric bikes made it possible to see much more in a short time without working too hard, which is the whole argument for the tour in one line. Annette from the Netherlands liked the guide and complained about the three-person minimum on some departures. It is also the highest-priced of the five, and it shows in how much ground you cover.

Monumental sightseeing tour — 5.0 from 3 reviews
Three reviews. A 5.0 built on three people is a coin landing heads three times. What makes the tour interesting is structural rather than statistical: it is the only one of the five that includes access to the château, 30 minutes of it, through a separate entrance, with a licensed guide, and it sits in the middle of the five on cost.

How I score these
I use GetYourGuide’s live rating and review count, and I say the sample size out loud whenever it is under about thirty, because that is roughly where a star rating stops being noise. Cost I give as a band — lowest-priced through highest-priced — because the widget quotes the live rate better than I can, and because the useful question is which of the five is dearer than which. Then I add what the product actually contains against what the château charges at the door, which you can check on the tickets page. A tour that repackages a cheap museum ticket has to justify the gap with a guide worth listening to.
Read the review count before the score. A 4.2 from 365 people is a far more reliable promise than a 5.0 from three.
